Or maybe it just likes to yank his feelings around like a goddamn yo yo.

It's probably a little of column A and a little of column B, honestly. Narcissa purses her lips, glances over to where Severus is still preparing the food.

"You'd think that." She swirls her wine, sighs. "Truth be told, if it's really calmer here -- well. It isn't, at home."

Things he both does and does not want to know about: home. Scorpius and his disasterous relationship with his cross-dressing father was enough of a glimpse into what could possibly await Draco, after all. The rest, well. He knew Harry had gone home-- with his young man in turn-- and everyone had skipped off to wrest happy endings from the world

Who knew?

"You may be right about that, but that makes it no less true." Things are still being settled with the Manor, there are still nights where Draco wakes in a cold sweat from nightmares or Lucius hurls a curse into the corner of the bedroom. He's started sleeping downstairs after nearly taking off her head when she'd gotten up to get water.

She shakes her head. "We ought not to talk about something that doesn't matter much here." And something that might remind him unpleasantly that he isn't going home.

Never going home. But that's fine; the village allowed him to close the book on many relationships from home. Harry. Draco. Hermione. Ron. Even Albus. Better farewells were said, gentler ways found to manage old pains. He does not regret it. Nor does he regret being here.

"We should," he says. "I don't think you should stay in the suite alone."

Which means he must have some alternate plan, right?
